A regal mosaic of objects, animals, and monuments, the Anubis pattern is derived from Egyptian sarcophagal adornments. The hieroglyphic geometry, composed of baboons, vultures, jewels, towers and leopard scepters, also features the jackal-headed god of the afterlife, for which it is named. The ancient icons, copied from a sarcophagus at the Cleveland Museum of Art, are reborn in watercolor renderings arranged on a field of Onyx, Sage or Papyrus.
